Saccharides are also unit structures for starch and cellulose. To be specific, white sugar from sugarcane is composed of disaccharides. When ingested, these disaccharides go through hydrolization into monosaccharides, which is what the body uses.
The problem with sugar is when the body consumes higher amounts of it. Consider another set of sugar facts. Sugar in excess opens up the door to hazardous medical conditions. Some of them are tooth decay, glycemic index, diabetes, gout, and obesity. There are also unverified claims that it may cause cancer.
Too many commerical products are made with noxious amounts of sugar. But the arrival of HFCS or high fructose corn syrup as a sugar replacement is even more noxious to the human body. HFCS is simply a bad choice as a sweetener compared to sugar.
Sugar just plainly tastes better than HFCS. But just because white sugar is less dangerous does not make it safe. They rely on highly industrialized processess of production.
